At the end of every Live Stream, I say that life is not linear, and you are doing great. Sometimes I say it because I need to hear it myself. But what does it mean?
Life is not a straight line. You don’t start at one point, go in a forward trajectory, and end at a destination. That’s just not how life works. But we tend to think of life in a linear fashion, and put limitations, restrictions, and expectations on ourselves. Does this sound familiar to you? “I should be further along than I currently am”. So often, we compare ourselves to others, or even the societal norms that had been set in place. There are no predetermined check points that one must achieve to be a person. You just are. You are exactly where you’re supposed to be because that is where you are.
Life is supposed to be a whirlwind of experiences that take you to deeper levels of awareness and consciousness. Every major setback you have ever encountered was put in place to teach you something. How did you do? Did you learn and grow from it? Or will you be repeating the pattern over again? That is how life teaches us lessons. We will repeat the pattern over and over again until we choose to level up and grow from the experience.
So when I tell you that life is not linear, and you are doing great, I mean it. There is no straight line. There is no “place” that you are supposed to be at this moment other than where you currently are. And if life is not a straight line, then there is no backwards. If we had to assign a line shape to life, it would be a scribbled mess. - I designed a hoodie that looks exactly like this… a scribble and the phrase “life is not linear”. It’s for sale on my website if anyone is interested. If you look at a scribble, you’ll see that there is no backwards. It’s just a pivot, a turn, a curve.
Do you think I wanted to move back home? Absolutely not. I told myself I had failed, that I was behind, and that I was a loser. But then when I was a little more clear headed, I was able to recognize that it was the best possible option for MoonGlow and myself. I could have easily found a mindless job making enough money to support myself (I wasn’t making enough at the dispensary. I so wanted it to be enough, but it wasn’t), but then MoonGlow would be on the back-burner, and I would be miserable. I can’t half do something. When I am focused on something like a job or a project, I pour my whole self into it. My business would have fallen to the wayside before it even had a chance to come alive. But now, I have the opportunity to grow MoonGlow into the brand I see her as. And I have all of you to thank for that! We couldn’t be here without you, so I personally want to thank you for your support!
Setbacks are going to come. It’s a part of life. Start asking yourself, “what is the lesson I’m supposed to learn here” rather than falling into a pity party for yourself. See if you can lean into the discomfort and grow from the experience. This is how we evolve. This is how we become who we are meant to be. And always, always remember… Life is not linear, and you are doing great, my friend.
